Our Story

Diamonds are intimate, buying them should be too.

The Gem Tree was founded to take the wholesale diamond market out of the back rooms it usually lives in and put it in front of the people actually buying. We source independently graded stones through long-standing relationships, share the certification before anything is decided, and design the setting around the diamond you choose.

Every diamond in our inventory is graded by the Gemological Institute of America and laser-inscribed with its certification number, so what you see on paper is what you take home. We don't run a high-street showroom or a queue at the counter — every meeting is one-on-one, by appointment.

Where we work

Our principal workshop sits in Parktown, Johannesburg, with a second consulting space in Cape Town. Both are open by appointment — please get in touch and we'll arrange a visit at a time that suits.
